Introducing Blue Horizons

Welcome to Blue Horizons, this section of the Green Generation guide is focused on compiling a range of resources dedicated to fisheries and ocean advocacy and climate action. We aim to empower the next generation to take action for a sustainable future. Join us in creating a positive change!

ABOUT US

The Green Generation Guide is an educational, climate action resource database created by students for students. The goal of this website is to inspire young climate activists to get involved in specifically fisheries and oceans advocacy, and climate action. Often times, young activists do not know where to begin when it comes to engaging and participating in climate change action. Hopefully this website will change that.

On this website you will find a range of resources that include local citizen science projects, a range of scholarships , resources for green jobs and internships, and volunteering opportunities with different organizations and foundations.

The reason why this website was created was because we know how difficult and overwhelming it can be engaging in climate action. It can be incredibly difficult finding accurate information, finding organizations that are still active and events to attend. We want to help.

We want to break down the barriers and myths surrounding climate action engagement and show young activists that it really is quite simple to get involved. You don't need a degree or years of experience in the field to make an impactful change, any level of participation is significant and it does make a difference.

Who is the creator of this website?

Hailing from the heart of Winnipeg, Bridgette Nzomwita's journey into  the world of marine biology began with an unconventional twist. Despite growing up far from the coasts, Bridgette's passion for the oceans was ignited before she ever laid eyes on them. At age 12, she declared in her school's yearbook that she would become a marine biologist. At the age of 15, she dove headfirst into climate action and Arctic research, spending nearly 6yrs conducting research on polar bear behaviour and Arctic Wolf and Caribou migrations. At age 19, she decided to actively pursue her dreams of marine biology.

Relocating to the West Coast without having glimpsed the ocean, Bridgette embraced every opportunity to delve deeper into her newfound passion. Since relocating Bridgette has experienced life in Haida Gwaii, spending 5 months there conducting salmon dockside monitoring for the government. As a marine biology student, she is fervently pursuing her dreams of understanding and preserving marine life.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Bridgette finds solace and adventure in nature. Rock climbing, hiking along rugged terrains, surfing gnarly waves, exploring tidepools, and even braving polar plunges are among her cherished hobbies.

Bridgette's journey is a testament to her relentless curiosity, dedication to environmental causes, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference in the world of marine conservation.
